Beginning with $40,000 of “seed money” in 1992, the Carrollton City Schools Education Foundation has become a six-figure non-profit that is able to make substantial awards each year to support instructional excellence.
To date, the foundation has awarded more than $142,000 to teachers through classroom grants, $25,000 for at-risk and gifted education programs and serves as a tax-exempt clearinghouse for other school system initiatives. The foundation also administers 10 scholarship programs and was the driving force behind EmpowerLink, a school-to-home community network public housing collaboration.
Empowering teachers
The Carrollton City Schools Education Foundation’s primary focus is to enhance classroom instruction. Its hallmark is the Instructional Excellence Grant program, which has awarded more than $142,000 directly to teachers for classroom instruction. The foundation also presents the Dudley Crosson Excellence in Teaching award, a $500 grant, each year to the school system’s Teacher of the Year.
Empowered by funding
The foundation depends on annual contributions and other funding resources to be able to provide a high level of grant support to the school system. Two other programs separate from the Annual Fund provide unique opportunities for giving:
Employee-Giving Program – Currently, employees of Carrollton City Schools make substantial contributions each year to help fund the Instructional Excellence Grant program.
Teacher of Honor Tribute – Contributions made in a teacher’s honor also support the IEG program. Honor recipients receive a decal highlighting the recognition.
